How do I keep my Small Planet Organic Tofu fresh after I open the package?

Until you are ready to use your Small Planet Organic Tofu, keep it in the vacuum-sealed package, it is protected and has a Best If Sold Date: stamped on it. After you open it the following will apply:

For Fresh Organic Tofu: The unused portion should be keep in water in a clean tupperware or cottage cheese container, covered with water, and stored covered in your refrigerator. The water should be changed at the least every other day, but ideally changing the water every day, can keep your tofu fresh for 5 to 7 days after opening the package. (Be careful not to touch the tofu with you hands when changing the water)

For Savory Baked Organic Tofu: Treat as a ready to eat, prepared food. Any unused portion should be kept in a zip-loc bag, refridgerated and used within 2 to 3 days, like a leftover.

Can I freeze my Small Planet Organic Tofu?

Yes you can!

For the Fresh Organic Tofu, freezing will change it's texture some, it will loose its smoothness. After it is thawed, it will be very porous and sponge-like and have a chewier, meat-like texture. It is fantastic to use in chili, stews, casseroles, and can still be used in stir-frys. It soaks up flavors in more than it did when it was fresh.

 For Savory Baked OrganicTofu, we have been told that after thawing, it comes out the same as before freezing, but it might get that chewier, sponge-like texture that the fresh gets after thawing. Still good to cut up for a salads or grill, or stir-fry.

The Dips... well they definitely loose their smoothness. So it does change them. I would not recommend freezing the dips, but they will still be edible.

We are very happy that you have decided to order Small Planet Organic Tofu here online. Do to the nature of this being a perishable item, and to make sure that your tofu arrives in as good a condition as it left here, we have needed to create specific shipping guidelines. It is also our goal to keep your shipping costs down without compromising the integrity of our products.

We ship your box(es) with reusable & recyclable insulation, and also include a wonderful, reusable ice/gel pack to keep our tofu cool in-transit. Our real shipping limitations are when the average temperature outside is above 60 degrees. For this reason, we can offer only COOL-WEATHER SHIPPING from October 1 – April 15, and EXPRESS SHIPPING anytime of the year, but mainly in the warmer months of the year (April 16 – September 30) (see details below)

Shipping & Handling - USPS Priority Mail 2-3 days - $20.00 per box (flat rate. Only available in the cooler months of the year (October 1 – April 15)

EXPRESS SHIPPING:

We were using DHL, but we have switched to using FedEx. This option is used exclusively during the warm months of the year April 16 - September 30. Because tofu is a perishable and summer is not the best tofu traveling weather, your tofu will be shipped Overnight - at a flat rate of $50.00 per box,  to get to you in 1 day! As fresh as you can get it.

ECONOMY SHIPPING Option (same as COOL-WEATHER SHIPPING) can be available anytime of the year. (if customer is from any of these states, they will be contacted directly).

Shipments will go out on either Monday or Tuesday, to make sure boxes arrive during the work week. Your tofu is made to order so it will have an excellent 'Best Sold By' date, for our Fresh Tofu, close to 36 days, and for our Savory Baked Tofu and our Dip & Spreads, close to 50 days. All of our tofu's are vacuum packed to protect and maintain freshness.
